The Crappy First Draft

The only thing that matters is that you take action. Start creating – Chase Jarvis, Creative Calling

Beginnings are hard. Sometimes you just need to dive in and see where the current takes you. Today this site, and this post, goes live. It’s not ready, not even close. But you know what? That’s not the point. The point is to start, to get that ball rolling. The name will change, the look will change, the content will change. And that’s okay, because this is the Crappy First Draft.

So why am I doing this?

  • Because practising makes you better.
  • Because my creative path has moved and I need to find my way back to it

I am primarily a photographer, albeit strictly amateur. I shoot fashion portraits that are often styled by myself. A big part of the joy is finding the clothes for a shoot.

This blog is going to delve into the process that goes into creating these looks, why I chose the photos to be edited, and why others fell by the wayside.

It’s also going to share all sorts of other things, some of which will be photography related and some of which will just be randomness.

I have no plan and no end goal. It’s just about getting started and seeing where this path leads.

Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft” . Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

Creative Calling by Chase Jarvis. Establish a daily practice, infuse your world with meaning, and succeed in work + life. Read it, it’s brilliant.
