Going Ultraviolet

This week marked the return of Wolfe Cottage Club Nights and it all kicked off with some ultraviolet fabulousness.

We were lucky enough to have two gorgeous models in the form of Helen and Emily, both of whom worked bloody hard to make sure everyone captured some fabulous shots on the night.

Caroline, Wolfe Cottage’s resident make-up artist, did a fantastic job with the costume design and make up, creating two wonderful, and contrasting, looks for the two models.

Having shot UV on a couple of occasions I hoped to be able to bring something different to this one. To that end I took along my flashgun, some ‘gels’ (sweet wrappers) and a flashbender softbox. The plan being to add a little bit of colour from behind the models without overpowering the ultraviolet light. I was a little concerned that even with the flash at it’s lowest setting that with the high ISO needed it would still be too strong.

I needn’t have worried. It worked wonderfully. It was a little tricky to get the flash positioned in the right place, but a little bit of trial and error gave some results that I was more than pleased with.

When all was said and done it was another fantastic club night and I’m looking forward to next month’s.
